Bollywood Actress Neelam

Neelam

Neelam’s full name is Neelam Kothari and she was born on 3rd of March 1968. Neelam was born in Hong Kong and the early part of her life was spent there it self where her father has traditional jewellery making business, creating high class timeless pieces for the rich and famous. She came to the Bollywood film industry at the diminutive age of forteen. She has also received a formal training in ballet dancing.

With in 2 years of landing in Bombay she made her Hindi movie debut with film ‘Jawaani’ that was released in the year 1984 and starred Karan Shah. She then had her first taste of fame when she starred in the movie ‘Ilzaam’ that was released in the year 1986 and happened to be the debut movie of Bollywood star Govinda. Neelam would thereafter star in many movies along side Govinda like ‘Love 86’ released in 1986, ‘Hatya’ released in 1987, Taaqatwar released in 1989 & ‘Do Qaidi released in 1989. Most of the movies fared well at the box office making these two a hit pair of the 1980’s. It is rumored that Govinda was actively pursuing Neelam but nothing substancial could happen for him.

Thought her stature is of a short one but she was definitely a stylish actress and when ever she dance there were good glimpses of a strong resemblance to ballet as she received professional training in ballet dancing. The other striking thing was that when ever she would speak in Hindi language it was more than evident that she was not at ease with it and she was having to make an effort to speak Hindi.

About her acting abilities it can be said that she wasn’t versatile and wasn’t one who would be good at doing roles that were done by some famed actresses like Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi, Rekha, Aishwarya Rai or Hema Malini. Rather one could compare her acting skills to that of a Dimple Kapadia, Zeenat Aman, Praveen Babi or Neetu Singh, though she did not posses their heroics but she was every bit a chic and bubbly actress who would do her kind of role with ease but had much trouble in doing demanding scenes. For her part she never claimed to be a very accomplished actress, she never came out with statements claiming something is isn’t.

Much of her career passed without many success but she just managed to hang on for quite a while doing the movies that interested her when they came her came. But in a way she always seemed happy with what she achieved. In her own words some time ago she said that she used to watch a lot of Hindi movie and she always felt that is was an easy job and thought that she would be able to perform with the same ease. But when she started acted she came to know that acting wasn’t easy at all and it took her a few years to get accustomed with the shooting schedules and the rigorous needs of an acting career.

Neelam at that time had a crush for Bobby Deol. They started seeing each other quite frequently and the crush turned into romance that lasted for a few years until Bobby all of a sudden halted the romance, this because bobby’s father Bollywood actor Dharmendra would not like to see a glamorous Bollywood actress to be his daughter-in-law.

Thereafter she stopped acting in Bollywood films tough she has appeared in a couple of movies since like in ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. She also acted in 1999 movie Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United co-starring with Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Mohnish Behl and Tabu. She then she joined her family business of Jewellery Exports. She formally trained herself in the trade and joined her father & brother in the trade nearly 10 years back. Today she has a taken it really far having opened a showroom in Mumbai,India under the brand name Neelam Jewels
